John McGregor Wins Kent Tennis Title

The John McGregor Panthers took home the Kent Tennis team title narrowly defeating the UCC Lancers and CKSS Golden Hawks with scores of 31 points, 29, and 25 respectively. The championship is John McGregor’s 5th team win in 6 years.

In the boy’s singles final, Brandon Dube defeated his younger brother Josh Dube, 8-7 (7-4) in the championship match. Alex Goldoni of JMSS finished 3rd.

Chatham-Kent Secondary Schools player Graciela Alaniz won the girls singles title defeating teammate Laura Polowich. John McGregor’s Anique Daley placed 3rd.

First in the boy’s doubles division went to  Cam Martin and Luc Hebert of Ursuline College, while John McGregor’s Brady McIntrye and Dylan McTavish were second, and UCC’s Brandon Joyes and Matt Ruttle 3rd.

John McGregor’s Cassidy Fenton and Reanna Underwood won the girl’s doubles division defeating Kara Hueniken and Deanna Lo  of CKSS in the final. UCC’s Rachael Malott and Jacqui Scaman were 3rd.

Chatham-Kent Secondary School duo Rick An and Nicole Protopapas captured the mixed doubles crown, edging Brooks Shepley and Whitney Martin of JMSS. Jasmine Shadd and Matt Smith of CKSS were third.

Chatham is hosting SWOSSAA Tennis for the first time next Tuesday at both the Tecumseh and JMSS tennis courts.
