Wallaceburg Tartans Enter Playoffs Undefeated
In recent years, it seems entering the postseason in top spot is becoming the norm for the Wallaceburg District Secondary School Tartans senior football team, however, if history has anything to say about it, winning a Kent title is no sure thing for the Tartans. The Tartans though, still enter next week’s senior football playoffs as heavy favourites.
Friday the Tartans capped off their perfect season by defeating the Blenheim Bobcats 28-7. In the other game of the day, the UCC Lancers beat the CKSS Golden Hawks 20-7. Although the scores seemed lopsided, the games will also give the losing team’s motivation for next week’s semi-finals. John McGregor finished last and was eliminated posting an 0-6 record.
After the Blenheim Bobcats opened the scoring Friday with Ryan Brooke punching in a short TD, Wallaceburg scored 4 unanswered touchdowns. Jordan Durston, who also plays for the Wallaceburg Lakers and Wallaceburg Red Devils, scored two touchdowns in the game, including a 68-yard run. Dan Fox and Matt Whiteye had the other Wallaceburg Tartans TDs.
Tristan Robinet and Zak Rybansky scored majors for the UCC Lancers as they defeated CKSS 20-7. Josh Reaume kicked two field goals to top off the Lancers offense for the day. CKSS’ only scoring play came on a 90-yard touchdown as CKSS quarterback Clark Green hooked up with receiver Dylan Bell.
Both semi-final rematches will take place next Friday.
