Andy Fantuz Ambassador for the 47th Vanier Cup
Andy Fantuz will serve as the official CIS ambassador for the 47th Vanier Cup this November 25. The Vanier Cup is the national championship game for CIS football, and this year will be held at BC Place in Vancouver.
At the event, Fantuz will also be the presentor for the Hec Crighton award, given annually to the CIS’ Most Outstanding Player. In 2005, Andy Fantuz was the Hec Crighten Award winner after finishing a spectacular career with the Western Mustangs. Fantuz was presented his award from fellow CIS legend Jesse Lumsden,
“It was special to receive my Hec Crighton from former winner Jesse Lumsden, so to be asked to present to this year’s winner is truly an honour,” Fantuz said in an official CIS news release.
Fantuz was also the CIS Rookie of the Year, and a four time CIS All-Canadian and four time OUA all-star. Professionally, Fantuz has was named the Most Outstanding Canadian in the Grey Cup as his Saskatchewan Roughriders won the 2007 championship. In 2010, Fantuz was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian.
This season, Fantuz struggled to regain his form after being cut from the NFL’s Chicago Bears and suffering an ankle injury soon after returning to the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders.
