CKSS Golden Hawks 2011 Junior Volleyball SWOSSAA Champions

The Chatham-Kent Golden Hawks defeated the Sandwich Sabres 3 games to 1 to capture gold in the SWOSSSAA Junior Boys “AAA” final. With no OFSAA at the Junior level, the win marks the season finale for the Golden Hawks, who beat Sandwich 25-23, 18-25, 26-24, 26-24.

The match was very close, with each team exchanging leads throughout. CKSS was up 13-3 in the third, and Sandwich stormed back to tie it up at 24-24. The Golden Hawks kept their composure closing out the set 26-24.

Sandwich took that momentum into the fourth set as they jumped out to a 13-4 lead. The Golden Hawks fought back on the tough serves and tremendous defensive efforts of middle Nick Ladd. The Hawks grabbed the lead at 15-14, and continued to push hard earning a 22-16 lead on the visiting Sabres. There was no quit in Sandwich as they brought the game to a 22-23 score. Chatham-Kent scored the next point on a Brad Paraskevopolous kill from power. The Sabres scored the next two points, drawing even at 24-24, before the CKSS Golden Hawks closed out the game with the final two points.

Matt Caron, and Jake Lindley led the way offensively, and Drew Medd controlled the game well as setter for the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks.

The mind set of placing the team before the individual and “thinking out loud” was the Junior Hawks motto all year long. It proved to be effective for the team as they were Golden for a second straight year in the “AAA” Junior SWOSSAA Championships
