Seth Griffith Super in Subway Super Series Win Over Team Russia
Any question critics had about Seth Griffith’s ability to play with the best in the world were wiped away Thursday night as the Wallaceburg, Ontario native scored a goal and added 2 assists for Team Ontario as they defeated Team Russia 10-7 in the Subway Super Series.
Team Russia entered the game with a perfect 2-0 record in the Series after defeating the Quebec League squad twice.
After a line shift saw Griffith promoted to playing with Mark Scheifele, who started the season in the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets, and OHL captain Tyler Toffoli, the trio ignited the OHL’s offense in the third period.
Scheifele scored four minutes into the third period, assisted by Griffith. With only 7-minutes remaining in the game, Griffith made his real mark on the game scoring for Team OHL assisted by Toffoli. To cap off his 3-point performance, Griffith assisted on another Scheifele goal with less than 2-minutes remaining in the game.
Entering the game, Griffith openly discussed his excitement about the game, “It’s a great honour to be chosen to play in the SUBWAY Super Series with a lot of skilled players from the OHL.”
After a 3-point performance, Griffith has solidified his place as one of those great, skilled players on the OHL roster.
More important than his offensive output in the eyes of many scouts, Griffith was a key defensive contributor seeing key minutes on the penalty kill throughout the game.
Freddie Hamilton had a hat trick for Team OHL, while Ryan Strome had 2 goals in the win. On the Russian side, key prospects Nail Yakupov and Vladislav Namestnikov were held without a goal, although each chipped in with assists.
Griffith will be back in the lineup with the London Knights Friday night against the Soo Greyhounds.
