Tartans Reign in AA-AAAA Girls Basketball, Win Two Kent Titles

As heralded, it was a super Saturday in Wallaceburg, with both the Junior Girls and Senior Girls WDSS Basketball teams winning Kent Basketball Championships.

In the Junior Girls final, the Wallaceburg Tartans lead from tip off until the final buzzer, defeating the CKSS Golden Hawks 39-17. Aylssa Lucier was the top scorer for Wallaceburg in the win with 12-points, followed by Haley Sarapnickas who scored 8-points. Kianna Shepley and Cianna Bechard had strong games for the Golden Hawks.

The senior girls final went much the same as the junior, with the Wallaceburg Tartans leading the UCC Lancers after each quarter, and taking a 54-31 win at game’s end.

As they have all season, Shauney Fischer, Erin Sarapnickas, and Kaylene Hagen powered the Tartans to the win. Fischer had 17-points, Sarapnickas 8-points, and Hagen 11-points in the win.

Arynn and Leann Finley were strong in the loss for the UCC Lancers, scoring 11- and 7-points respectively.

Wallaceburg will now advance to face the Sarnia-Lambton AA champion in the SWOSSAA semi-final.
