Golden Hawks Hold Off Ridgetown Royals’ Charge
After gaining a 4-0 first period lead, the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks allowed the game to slip away as the Ridgetown Royals scored 4 unanswered goals to tie the game 4-4 in the third. The Golden Hawks however, re-took the lead to pull off a late 6-4 win.
Drew Marlatt, who plays for the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Major Bantam AAA team, scored the game winner for CKSS in the third period, while Lucas Stanhope had a goal and 3 assists for the Golden Hawks.
Other Chatham-Kent Secondary School goal scorers were John Montgomery, Blake Padbury, Tyler Harwood, and Dylan Bell.
Steven Beenackers was a force for the Ridgetown Royals who iced a small roster, scoring twice and adding an assist. Carson Edwards and Darren Clark had the other Ridgetown goals.
Justin Pratt took the win in net for the CKSS Golden Hawks. Pratt will be the Golden Hawks go to goalie for the remainder of the season after veteran Devin Cove made the jump to the Wallaceburg Lakers last week.
The win pulled the Golden Hawks within 2-points of Ridgetown in the season standings, with one game in hand. The LKCS Cardinals currently sit in first place in the KCSSAA boys league with a perfect 8-0 record, which is good enough to clinche first overall.
The KCSSAA high school hockey season will resume after the Christmas break.
