Chatham Thunder Win Two at Cambridge Tournament

This past weekend the Cement Man Chatham Thunder U10 ringette team travelled to Cambridge for their first tournament of 2012. The previously undefeated U10 Chatham Thunder entered as a U12B team in this tournament. The girls did not disappoint the Chatham fans as they beat the host team 8-3 in their opening game. Courtney Legere scored 3, while Lydia Harron, Ireland DaSilva, Erica Anderson, Kylyn Murphy, and Natasha Anderson each pocketed a goal in the game. Erica Anderson assisted on three of the goals and Emilie Newman assisted in two more.

Facing a strong group from Mitchell in their next game, the Chatham Thunder suffered ther first loss of the season after 14 games. Courtney Legere netted a ring assisted by Emilie Newman. Camille scored the second Thunder goal assisted by Kylyn Murphy and Courtney Legere. Final score was 10-2 for the Mitchell Stingers.

After round robin play with a 1-1 record, Chatham was ranked 4th. Playoffs began against the host team of Cambridge. Once again the Chatham Thunder girls outplayed Cambridge and beat them 5-4. Cambridge came out strong, attempting to redeem their loss to the Thunder the day before. However, it was Courtney Legere, who scored the first of her 4 goals in the matchup. Lydia Harron scored the other Chatham goal, assisted by Camille Blain. Erica Anderson and Emile Newman assisted in Legere’s goals.

After beating the Cambridge squad we had to tackle the 1st place team from Owen Sound. Although the girls from Owen Sound were stronger and faster Chatham kept pace throughout the first half of the game. The score at half time was Owen Sound 3 Chatham 2. Courtney Legere scored both goals unassisted. The second half of the game proved to be Chatham’s hardest period of the season giving up 8 more goals and answering with only 1 more by Legere assisted by Emilie Newman. Chatham was simply out-muscled by stronger faster girls from Owen Sound.

The Cement Man Chatham Thunder U10 host U10 Mitchell White and U10 Mitchell Black at Erickson Arena Sunday Jan 15th at 1:00 and 3:00PM. We hope to continue our regular season undefeated status.
