Kings Keep Rolling With Win Over Wheatley

The Dresden Kings continue to show teams across the league they are for real picking up their 6th win in their last 9 games yesterday. Friday night, the Kings defeated the Wheatley Sharks 3-2 despite being outshot 40-28.

Brent Paxton shut the door for the Kings making 38 saves in the win, while Came Ross potted the game winning goal midway through the third period.

Brendon Anger got the Wheatley Sharks on the board first in the game on the powerplay. Anger a former Blenheim Blades player, has provided an offensive spark in the Sharks’ lineup since coming over earlier this season. Assists on the goal went to Dustin Woelk and Sebastian Kanally.

Before the first period was out, Dresden’s Jesse Allen answered back to tie the score at 1-1.

In the second period, James Shelton added a powerplay goal to put the Dresden Kings up 2-1. Assisting on the powerplay marker were Brennan Rainey and Macks Holmes.

Cam Ross scored his eventual game winning goal at 9:48 of the third. Although Wheatley fought back, closing the score to 3-2 on an Eric Rivard goal, it wouldn’t be enough. Rivard, a 16-year-old Tilbury product, was the captain of the Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget team last season.

Dresden now plays Kingsville on the road Saturday night, while Wheatley welcomes the struggling Wallaceburg Lakers to town Monday night.
