A popular Pittsburgh Steelers blog, the Steelers Depot, which is a part of the FoxSports.com network, took a very clear stance on the long term deal the Steelers inked with Wallaceburg’s Shaun Suisham, along with what the future holds for the kicker.

The blog discussed Suisham’s 4-year contract, explaining that although he is under contract, the team could, and possibly will, release Suisham after June 1,  leaving the Steelers on the hook for only $337,500 in 2012, and $675,000 in 2013 of Suisham’s contract.

As the blog stated, “Suisham may indeed be in camp when it opens, but you can bet he will have competition and has likely made his last kick in the black and gold.”

In 2011, Suisham went 23-for-31 (74.2%) before hitting all 3 field goals he attempted in the Steelers’ only playoff game, a loss to the Denver Broncos.

Suisham’s kicking percentage was the lowest out of full time kickers in the NFL this season, sitting almost 20% below Matt Bryant and Connor Barth, the league’s top kickers this season who hit 93% of their kicks.

Athough the blog did not hide the opinion that the Steelers should draft or sign another kicker, it was written on speculation as the Steelers have no publicly stated that they are pursuing, or will pursue other kickers in the offseason.
