Chatham-Kent Runners Compete at Around The Bay Road Race
Dozens of Chatham-Kent runners from Chatham, Thamesville, Ridgetown, and other corners of the Municipality made the trip to Hamilton this past weekend for the annual Around the Bay Road Races. The day is highlighted by a 30km road race.
Chatham’s Michael French was the top local finisher in the race, completing the 30km race in 2:14:39, playing 49th out of 493 runners in the men’s 40-44 division, and coming in 329 out of 3173 men overall.
In the same division, Chatham runner Steve Moore crossed the finish line only minutes later playing 70th in his division and 462nd among men. Mike Aikenhead was less than a minute behind Moore, and finished 70th in the men’s 45-49 division, and 470th overall among men.
The top finishing female runner from Chatham-Kent was Kerri Wood who came in 90th out of 405 in the women’s 30-34 division, and 470th out of 2944 women overall in a time of 2:41:59. Jeni Powell of Chatham was the next female runner from CK to cross the line, finishing 43rd in the women’s 50-54 age group.
In his age bracket of men’s 70-74, Brent Loyer grabbed an impressive 5th place finish, completing the 30km race in 3:28:58.
Hamilton’s Reid Coolsaet topped all runners finishing the 30km road race in 1:33:20, while Krista Duchene, of Brantford was the fastest female finishing in 1:47:03.
