Bantam Diamonds Win Walker Homesites Tournament

The Major Bantam Chatham Diamonds won their first tournament of the season, the Walker Homesite Tournament this past weekend.

Luke Van Rycheghem pitched a strong game in the Diamonds’ opener against the Windsor Stars collecting 5 strikeouts in a 15-3 victory.

Logan Buruma led the offense for Chatham with 3 singles and 2 RBIs, while Josh Horney had a single and a double, driving in 3 runs.

Facing Waterloo in their second game, the Chatham Diamonds got out to a 5-1 lead before rain stopped the game after 3 innings. Austin Oulds had 2 singles and scored 2 runs for Chatham.

Facing Wyoming in the semi-final the next day, Chatham battled through a defensive game, sneaking out a 2-1 win. Austin Oulds pitched a solid 6 innings, throwing 10 strike outs.

In the final, facing the LaSalle Titans, Chatham used a huge 6th inning in which they scored 6 runs to come from behind and take the championship with a 13-10 win.

Jalen Butcher had 2 singles and a double in the championship game, while Van Rycheghem had two singles, and also threw 7 strikeouts from the hill.
