Golden Hawks Hold Off Lancers
The Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks held off a late charge from the UCC Lancers to win the season opening match up in the KCSSAA Senior Boys football loop.
In the first quarter, Blayne Bechard opened the scoring with a long, 65-yard touchdown run breaking through UCC’s defence. Later in the quarter, Ben Bartlett put the Golden Hawks up 14-0 with a 41-yard touchdown run.
After CKSS kicker Clark Green scored a single on a rouge in the second quarter, Blayne Bechard extended the Golden Hawks’ lead again, this time on a 55-yard catch and run for the touchdown. UCC would start to claw back scoring a touchdown in both the second and third quarters, and again pulled closer in the fourth.
CKSS would not score another touchdown, but Clark Green did add a 41-yard field goal, making the final score 25-20 in favour of the Golden Hawks.
In the other Senior Football matchup, Wallaceburg shut out the Blenheim Bobcats 36-0. No statistics were provided.
