Hawks Win Finals Rematch
As a new season of Kent boys hockey begins, the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks sent a message to the reigning champion Lambton-Kent Cardinals, after the Cardinals defeated the Hawks in last year’s final.
After falling to Ridgetown in their opening game, the Golden Hawks sent a message to the league defeating Dresden (Lambton-Kent) 8-2.
Sam McPherson had two goals for the Hawks, while Drew Marlatt, Nolan Smith, Blake Padbury, Nate Whittal, Brady Shephard, and Alec Miller scored singles.
Kevin Ritzer and Cole McDonald scored Dresden’s goals in the loss.
In Wallaceburg, the Tartans opened their season with a 3-1 win over the visiting UCC Lancers.
Nic Howlett opened the scoring for the Tartans at 6:37 of the first period. In the second, Howlett scored again, while Evan Gihuly rounded out Wallaceburg’s scoring in the third. Will Tetzlaf scored UCC’s lone goal.
