Three Cyclones Selected For Alliance All-Star Game

Three Minor Midget Chatham-Kent Cyclones players will be travelling this weekend to the annual Alliance Hockey All-Star game. The game will take place Saturday, December 15 at the Western Fair Sports Centre in London.

The Cyclones will be represented by forward Drew Marlatt, defenceman Dede Cato, and goalie Brendan Johnston.

As well, Thamesville’s Trent Fox, who plays for London Gold, and Bothwell native Travis Konecny, who plays for Elgin-Middlesex, were also selected for the annual showcase. The game features the top OHL draft eligible players from the Alliance Hockey system.

In 23 games this season, Marlatt has 6 goals and 11 assists for the Cyclones. Cato, the team captain, missed a large chunk of the season with a fractured collarbone, but is back in action and has 7 goals and 4 assists in 12 games from the blueline. Both Cato and Marlatt are grade 10 students at Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

Johnston, who attends school in Wallaceburg, has started 12 games this season and has compiled a 5-4-3-0 record, with a 2.39 GAA, and 0.907 save percentage.

Konecny, who is expected to be a top five pick in this year’s OHL draft, leads the Alliance in scoring with 27 goals and 31 assists for 58 points in 24 games. Fox is tied for 13th in Alliance scoring with 11 goals and 12 assists in 21 games. Fox played for the Chatham-Kent Cyclones last season.
