The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks walked away with a 84-75 win over cross town rivals, the Waterloo Warriors, on the same evening the team held a fundraiser for ALS in honour of Chatham’s Dave Allin, who passed away from ALS on January 4 at the age of 61.

Max Allin, Dave’s son, scored 23-points for the Golden Hawks in the win, continuing his strong season. In January, Allin was named the CIS, OUA, and Laurier athlete of the week. He currently leads the OUA and Wilfrid Laurier in scoring. Allin is averaging 22.5 points per game, more than 2 points more than his closest OUA challenger. Allin also had 8 rebounds and 9 assists in the win.

During the men’s and women’s basketball games at Laurier Saturday, the teams collected cash donations and held a silent auction for dozens of items.

“This was an idea that the whole team has supported,” said team manager Meagan Davis in a team press release. Davis organized the fundraiser. “After witnessing what Max and his entire family went through, we all knew that we wanted to find a way to support them and raise awareness for the disease.”

Wilfrid Laurier will host Brock this Wednesday February 6, before traveling to Western February 9.
