Wallaceburg District Secondary School student, and Port Lambton resident Brendan Johnston was selected Saturday in the OHL Priority Draft by the Windsor Spitfires, 97th overall in the 5th round.

The Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget netminder was considered one of the Alliance’s top goaltenders, and was heavily scouted by OHL teams throughout the season.

Johnston picked up 6 of his team’s 8 regular season wins this season, posting a solid 0.916 save percentage and a 2.36 goals against average. Johnston’s save percentage was tied for second in the Alliance AAA league among starting goaltenders this season.

During the playoffs, Johnston record all 6 of his team’s victories, including one shutout.

Last season as a grade 9, Johnston was the Wallaceburg Tartans high school team MVP.

Johsnton participated as one of 16 goaltenders in the OHL Combine last month in Toronto.

Johnston also practiced with and backed up the Chatham Maroons Junior B hockey team on multiple occasions this season.
