Para-Athlete Derek Whitson closed out an incredible month as the multi-sport athlete picked up his second medal representing Team Canada in a week, across two different sports.

Whitson, a UCC graduate, won gold with Team Canada’s Sledge Hockey team at the IPC World Sledge Ice Hockey Championships in South Korea earlier this week, and this weekend, picked up a bronze medal as the goaltender for Canada’s footbal 7-a-side team, which plays a variation of soccer.

After winning a bronze with the same team in Rio in 2007, Whitson backstopped the Canadian team to a bronze again this week at the Defi sportif AlterGo competition.

After tying Argentina 1-1, losing to England 7-0, and defeating Australia 8-0 in round robin play, Canada, with Whitson in net, again matched up with Australia for the bronze medal in the competition, which is for athletes with a motor disability.

In the bronze medal game, Whitson and the Canadians shutout Australia 3-0, taking home the medal.
