Kellier Crushes Record at Kent Track and Field
Chatham-Kent Secondary School runner Josh Kellier paved his own way to the record books Tuesday on day one of the Kent Track and Field Championships.
Kellier crossed the finish line in the boys 3000 metres event in only 9:16.63, breaking a 32 year-old record by 3.37 seconds. Kellier, who won Antique Bronze at this Fall’s cross country OFSAA championships, cruised ahead of the competition, finishing an astonishing 53 seconds ahead of Blenheim’s Tom Rideaut who was second.
The lone other record set Tuesday, was by UCC’s Anastasia Maslak who jumped 2.10 metres in the pole vault event. Maslak was also first in girls triple jump.
The top four finishers in each event from Kent will advance to the SWOSSAA meet May 22 in Sarnia and May 23 in Windsor.
