Mark Davis Named New Chatham Maroons Head Coach
When the Chatham Maroons begin their training camp Thursday, they’ll have a familiar face making the decisions as the team has named former coach and GM, Mark Davis as new head coach.
Davis guided the Maroons to the Western Conference final in 2006. He has been the head coach of the GOJHL’s Lambton Shores Predators for the last two seasons, leading the organization to their first ever playoff berths. The Predators were eliminated in the opening round of the GOJHL playoffs this season by the Chatham Maroons.
Prior to his time with Lambton Shores, Davis was the head coach of the Junior C Wallaceburg Lakers.
He is replacing former Maroons head coach Bill Bowler, who was the team’s head coach for the past two seasons, leading the team to first overall in the regular season this year, and to the Western Conference final where the Maroons fell to the London Nationals.
Davis has multiple Junior B and Junior C titles to his resume, and will begin building his squad as the Maroons kick off their mini-camp Thursday and Friday in Chatham.
Rumours of Davis’ move to Chatham were discussed for weeks after Bowler’s resignation from the team, but were confirmed by sources within the Maroons, GOJHL, and several media outlets Thursday.
Talk about a downgrade. Why would the association recycle this coach. All he does is wine and cry all game to the refs instead of teaching the players how to adapt to the circumstances that present themselves during the games. 2 Thumbs down!
