CK Drivers Find Stiff Competition On Balmy Buxton Race Night
On a night highlighted by the Patriot Sprint Tour as a part of the Canadian Mid-Season Championship, and balmy summer weather, local Chatham-Kent drivers found it difficult to find their way to the winner’s circle at South Buxton Raceway Saturday.
Merlin’s Eren Vanderiviere won his second straight Windride Transportation Sport Stocks feature, holding off fellow Merlin driver Steve Shaw in the 20-lap race. Ridgetown’s Dale Glassford was the only other local driver to take the checkered flag, winning the UMP Late Models race. Glassford was trailed by Charing Cross’ Chris Ross, and Mike Lewis of Wallaceburg.
In the Canadian Mid-Season Championship Patriot Sprint Tour race, Burford’s Jamie Collard took the night’s top prize. The race which featured drivers from three States and two Provinces, had only one local driver competing. Tilbury’s Kyle Patrick finished 5th in the race, one week after finishing 2nd at South Buxton in the Topless Sprints event held last weekend.
Cottam’s Rob Quick also won his second consecutive race at South Buxton, crossing the line first in the Tirecraft Mini-Mods feature. Blenheim’s Kyle Hope was the top local driver in the Mini-Mods division, finishing 3rd.
In the Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modifieds, Leamington’s Joel Dick took the checkered flag, followed by a trio of local drivers in Darryl Hoekstra (Chatham), Brian Speelman (Chatham), and Drew Smith (Wallaceburg).
