Balkwill Helps Majors Stay in Hunt
For the past two summers, Chatham’s Larry Balkwill has played across the border in league’s designed for NCAA baseball players. This summer however, Balkwill returned closer to home after he completed his senior season at Siena College, and is now helping the London Majors stay in the hunt in the Intercounty Baseball League.
London currently sits second overall, behind only the Brantford Red Sox, and Balkwill has been a major player in the Majors’ success, battling .309.
Serving as the team’s primary catcher since his arrival, Balkwill has 18 RBIs and 1 Home Run in 26 games.
This week, Balkwill crossed the plate three times in a win over Hamilton, and had a 2-for-4 performance in a loss to Brantford. This followed 2-for-2 and 2-for-4 performances in wins against Toronto and Kitchener respectively, so it appears Balkwill is heating up.
The Majors will face Guelph twice, and Brantford this week.
