Junior Cougars Fall To Stampeders
The Junior Varsity Chatham-Kent Cougars came up against the undefeated Burlington Stampeders in the OFC Quarter-Finals Sunday and came up on the short end of a 53-0 score.
“JV’s represented the Cougar organization with class, respect for the game while demonstrating a high level of football skill,” wrote long time Cougars coach and executive member Jeff Green following the game. “A great group of young men, the Chatham Cougars are proud to have these players represent Chatham Kent. Several CIS coaches and scouts were extremely impressed with the teams performance.”
The Cougars fought hard and were lead by QB Kelton Evans who completed 8 passes for 107 yards. Leading receiver was Jake Anderson who caught for 67 yards and who had a strong day running the ball as well. Receivers Nate Whittal and Liberty Rountree and running backs Marc Kellet and Alex Ronyson also had strong offensive performances. Robbie Wright also as a key member of the offence catching 5 balls for 38 yards and rushing the ball for 42 yards. Wright also stepped up and went to quarterback when Evans went down with an injury.
Defensively, the Cougars were once again lead by Zach Kaniecki and Alex Formosa.
The loss marks the end of the season for the JV Cougars.
