Locals Vying For Position On Ontario Youth Team

Three local baseball players are vying for a position on the Ontario Youth Team which will compete at the 2013 Canada Summer Games.

After making it out of their regional camp, the group of locals will compete for a roster spot with Team Ontario, this July 15-16 at Vaughan Grove Sports Complex in Woodbridge, Ontario.

Chatham’s Austin Oulds and Alec Miller, both Chatham-Kent Secondary School students will be in attendance at the camp. Oulds, a short stop, plays this season for the Minor Midget Sarnia Braves, while Miller a third baseman, is playing for the U18 Windsor Selects, and has International experience representing Canada at the Sophomore Sunbelt Series baseball tournament in Oklahoma City, USA.

Kent Bridge’s Luke VanRycheghem, a pitcher, who plays for the U16 Windsor Selects is the other invitee to the final camp. VanRycheghem represented Team Vaughan at last year’s bantam National Championships.

The final 20 will be named to Ontario’s Youth Team for the Summer Games August 5-9 in Quebec.
