Chatham’s Tanner Emery will join a large group of graduating Chatham-Kent Cougars headed to OUA and CIS football this Fall, as the local athlete will attend Carleton University, and play for the Ravens.

The Ravens are entering their first season in OUA football since exiting the league in 1998.

“It’s been a long time running, but we’re finally ready to hit the field after 15 years,” said Head Coach Steve Sumarah in a Ravens video release.

Emery, who will study Criminal Justice at Carleton University, has been a member of the Chatham-Kent Cougars football organization since their inception in 2006. Emery also played high school football for the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks.

“Tanner Emery has been a very loyal Cougar player that has played football when our Cougar Minor football started in 2008,” says Chatham-Kent Cougars president Selwyn Jordan. “Tanner is an explosive athlete who started out as a RB and LB in Fall Minor House league, in JV Cougars Travel, and JR high school at CKSS. Recently Tanner made the transition to defensive back and has excelled under the coaching of Derek Quiqley. I would like to wish Tanner all the best as he pursues a spot on the Carleton roster. He has worked hard this summer and will be ready for the challenge,” continued Jordan.

This past spring, Emery was chosen to play on the All-Canadian Gridiron team in the Golden Horseshoe Current Stars game.

Carleton will open their season September 2 against perennial powerhouse, the Western Mustangs, before hosting their home opener September 7 against the Waterloo Warriors. Carleton will have the unique challenge of building a team comprised mostly of first year recruits, which will only have practised together for a few short weeks when their season opens against Western.
