Lahey Vying For National Beach Volleyball Title
Chatham’s Scott Lahey will attempt to win a Canadian Beach Volleyball National Championship this weekend, after winning a provincial Men’s gold medal in Alberta two weeks ago.
The now 34-year-old Lahey, will compete with his beach partner of two years, Shawn Kendal this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (August 23-25) in Vancouver, British Columbia.
This isn’t the first time Lahey, who has played beach volleyball in Ontario and Alberta since the age of 16, has competed in the National Championships. In 2006, Lahey, who was then partnered with Ray Sewell, won a silver medal in Toronto, losing to Rich Van Huizen, and his partner, Olympic medalist Mark Heese.
Facing a field of 33 men’s teams from across Canada at Spanish Banks Beach in Vancouver, Lahey also has a wealth of indoor volleyball experience, playing for the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks, Chatham Ballhawks, and completing a four year CIS career with the University of Calgary Dinos.
