Blades Open In Style, Shutout Lakers
Blenheim Blades fans got exactly what they wanted Sunday night in Blenheim, as the Blades won their home opener in convincing fashion shutting out the Wallaceburg Lakers 6-0.
Justin Pratt made 27 saves for the Blades, picking up the shutout, while rookie defenseman Brayden Seliga of Kent Bridge scored two goals and added two assists, pacing the Blades to the win.
In the first period, Seliga opened the scoring on the powerplay, with assists coming from Cam Aitken and Kirk McKillop. Before the period was out Jarrod Oliphant made the score 2-0 for the Blades.
After a scoreless second, Ryan Frizzell started things off for Blenheim in the third period, before Seliga scored his second of the night, with Aitken assisting again, and rookie underager Drew Marlatt also picking up an assist.
Minutes later on the powerplay, Kirk McKillop found twine, with helpers coming from Marlatt and Seliga, before Dylan Muzzatti finished off the scoring, with Seliga picking up his fourth point, and Cam Aitken assisting on his third goal of the night.
Wallaceburg goalie Joel Sowinski again faced a barrage of rubber, making 47 saves, his third straight 40 plus save performance, and the second time in three games this season he’s faced more than 50 shots.
In other local Junior action, the Chatham Maroons lost their first game of the season, falling 4-3 to the Strathroy Rockets. Michael Verboom, Ian Faubert, and Connor Annett scored for Chatham in the loss. Goalie Brendan Johnston made 27 saves in his first Junior start.
