Girls High School Basketball Tips Off
The KCSSAA High School Girls basketball season got underway Wednesday with a full schedule of games.
In Senior Girls action, Wallaceburg slipped by CKSS 40-36, while John McGregor beat UCC 36-23.
At CKSS, Haley Sarapnickas paced a balanced Wallaceburg Tartans attack with 12-points. Clancy Cavanagh had 10-points, while Alyssa Lucier had 8-points for the Tartans. The sister act of Allyson Huckle and Alicia Huckle had 13- and 6-points repsectively to top CKSS Golden Hawks scorers in the losing effort, while Kelsey Nydham chipped in with 5-points.
Across town at the Pines, Bridget Carleton topped all scorers with 19-points, leading the John McGregor Panthers to a 36-23 win. Devyn Demars had 8-points, while Amber Chettleburg had 6 for the Panthers. Carleton’s JUEL league teammates from this past summer, Aryn Finlay of Dresden and Lindsay Elliott of Wallaceburg, scored 11-points, and 6-points respectively in the loss for UCC.
At the Junior level, the tables were turned as CKSS downed Wallaceburg 38-15. Brittany McLaren had 9-points, Jana Kucera 8, and Natalie Stewardson 7-points for the Golden Hawks, while Sawyer Fischer had 10-points for Wallaceburg in the loss.
In the other Junior game, the winners were also flip flopped as UCC defeated John McGregor 46-25. Kennedy King paced the Lancers with 10-points, while Kaila Broadbent had 8, and Alexis Watt had 7. John McGregor’s leading scorer in the loss was Tori Mathews with 8-points.
