The annual Red Feather festivities, which serve as a fundraiser for the United Way of Chatham-Kent, kicked off Thursday with the Junior boys and girls soccer tournament held at Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

After the UCC Lancers won the boys side, the CKSS Golden Hawks and UCC Lancers faced off in what proved to be the championship game on the girls side.

With both teams entering the game undefeated, each beating Tilbury and Pain Court, the game was 0-0 until a hand ball in the final minute gave CKSS a penalty shot opportunity. Allyson Huckle stepped up and buried the opportunity, lifting the Golden Hawks to a 1-0 win. CKSS didn’t allow a goal in the tournament, defeating Pain Court 3-0, and Tilbury 5-0.

Red Feather continues this weekend with the annual softball, volleyball, and football events. In football, the John McGregor Panthers host the UCC Lancers for a regular season game. The match up takes place at 1pm on Saturday.
