Whitson Wins Four Nations Gold With Canadian Sledge Hockey Team
Chatham’s Derek Whitson added another piece of hardware to his already impressive trophy case, winning gold with Team Canada at the Four Nations Tournament in Sochii, Russia, the last major International tune up before the 2014 Paralympics.
Canada defeated Norway 4-0 in the gold medal game.
In the round robin, Whitson opened the tournament with an assist on Ben Delaney’s goal in a 3-1 opening win over the Czech Republic.
Whitson followed up that performance by scoring a goal in Canada’s 5-1 round robin win over Norway.
Although he was held off the scoresheet for the remainder of the tournament, Whitson, a defensman, played a key veteran role on the Canadian blueline, helping his country to gold.
