Small Schools, Big Scores In Senior Hoops
In the Kent Senior Girls high school basketball league, the bigger “AAA” and “AAAA” schools aren’t getting the better of their smaller counterparts. Rather, it’s “AA” schools Wallaceburg and John McGregor that just keep winning.
Wallaceburg remained undefeated, improving to 4-0, defeating the CKSS Golden Hawks for the second time this season, this time by a score of 47-31. Kayla Riley, who is Wallaceburg’s leading scorer this season, played a key role in the win, topping Tartans scorers with 13-points. Haley Sarapnickas kicked in 12-points for Wallaceburg. In the losing effort, Cianna Bechard had a game high 14-points for CKSS.
At John McGregor Secondary School, the Panthers toppled the Ursuline Lancers, winning 37-31. Ashley Jackson had 13-points for the Panthers, while Lindsay Elliott matched Jackson with 13-points of her own for UCC.
At the Junior level, the bigger schools got their revenge, as Brittany McLaren scored 14-points, helping the CKSS Golden Hawks remain undefeated, beating Wallaceburg, who was paced by Sawyer Fischer’s 14-points, 39-32. UCC beat JMSS 36-25 in the other game.
