Sowinski Shell Shocked Again As Kings Down Lakers
Wallaceburg Lakers goalie Joel Sowinski must feel as though he’s standing alone on the ice at times. The Wallaceburg netminder faced 63 shots in a 4-3 loss to the Dresden Kings Wednesday night. In 8 games this season, Sowinski has faced more than 50 shots four times in a game, and 40 or more, six times.
Wednesday, the Sarnia resident gave the Lakers a chance to win, but the Dresden Kings handed Wallaceburg their 8th consecutive loss to open the season.
Jeremy Griffore opened the scoring in the first period for Dresden, finishing off a feed on the powerplay from Dede Cato and Jesse Allen. After Ryan Gruszka answered for the Lakers, Derek Daly put the Kings ahead 2-1 after one.
In the second period, Gruszka tied things up for Wallaceburg, sending the team to the third in position to pick up their first win of the season.
It wasn’t to be though, as Dillon Liberty, who recently returned to the Dresden Kings from the GOJHL’s Lambton Shores Predators, scored back to back goals, putting Dresden up once and for all. Frankie White would try to get Wallaceburg back in the game, but it was too little too late, as his marker came with only 4 seconds to go on the clock.
Dresden hosts Blenheim Friday night before travelling to Amherstburg on Sunday. Wallaceburg is on the road in Alvinston Friday.
