Wallaceburg Lakers Fire Kris Jacobs, Shine Named New Coach
Even his team’s first win of the season couldn’t save Wallaceburg Lakers head coach Kris Jacobs from the chopping block as the team fired Jacobs following Wednesday’s win over Blenheim.
In his first move as General Manager, Brian Griffith, who replaced Jim McRea, sent the Lakers’ head coach packing, after a horrific 1-15 start to the Great Lakes Junior C season.
In Jacobs’ place, the Wallaceburg Lakers have hired Ken Shine. Shine, who has worked as an assistant coach for the Dresden Kings in the past, is also the father of former Wallaceburg Lakers tough guy Jordan Shine. Jordan Shine went on to play multiple years in the OHL.
“I have nothing but respect for Kris Jacobs and what he has done for the Laker Organization,” said Wallaceburg’s new GM Brian Griffith. “I also understand that the timing could not have come at a worse time. Unfortunately I believe that there needed to be a change—to change the direction of the Lakers future. Last night I approached Kris and informed him that I had hired Ken Shine as head coach and also asked Kris to stay on as an assistant and continue to be part of the Lakers future, as well as the rest of the coaching staff,” continued Griffith.
Shine will take over the reigns of the Wallaceburg Lakers immediately, and coupled with Griffith, will actively work to recruit and dig Wallaceburg out of the hole they’re in.
Wallaceburg has a week off before facing Alivinston November 7, Dresden November 8, and Amherstburg November 9.
