The former Jack Parry Award winner, and Wallaceburg District Secondary School graduate, is studying Kinesiology at York, and is a starting forward with the basketball team.

Her York University player profile describes her as “A tenacious, physical player who gives the team an inside presence and who brings a great attitude to the team.” Fischer is averaging more than 20-minutes of court time per game and is averaging more than 6 rebounds and 3 points per game in OUA action this season.

Fischer is also a former OBA and Kent champion while playing basketball in Wallaceburg.

Below are Shauney Fischer’s answers to CKSN’s Five Questions:

1. What is your career sports highlight/top memory?

Thus far my 2 career highlights have been winning the Jack Perry Award and committing to play basketball for York University.

2. Who is your favorite professional sports team and athlete?

To be honest I don’t watch too much professional basketball because I find that there is too much showing off and not enough actual playing, but I do like to watch the NCAA and my favourite team is Gonzaga. As for favourite player, I am a huge fan of Micheal Jordan.

3. If you could achieve one thing/goal in sports, what would it be?

If I could achieve one thing in sport it would be to make it into the CIS tournament with the York Lions.

4. Who has been your biggest sports influence and why?

My biggest influence would probably be my mom. She has always been my biggest supporter, and she has always pushed me to be the very best person and player I can be. I don’t know where I would be without her.

5. What do you love most about playing sports?

The very best thing about playing sports, and being a York Lion is finding yourself a second family. I love how when a team sets goals and works together, it can rise above a challenge that an individual player could have never accomplish on their own.
