High School Champions Crowned
In Senior girls ‘AA-AAA-AAAA’ basketball, Bridget Carleton scored 18-points, leading the John McGregor Panthers to a 45-24 win over the Wallaceburg Tartans. Amber Chettleburgh chipped in with 7 points for the Panthers, while Ashley Jackson had 6. Wallaceburg’s Alyssa Lucier was her team’s leading scorer with 10-points.
At the ‘AA-AAA-AAA’ Junior level, the CKSS Golden Hawks won their second consecutive Kent title, 43-29 over Wallaceburg. Jana Kucera had a game high 13-points for the Golden Hawks, with strong supporting scoring from Logan Kucera, Loren Koluk and Natalie Stewardson, each with 6-points, and Lauren Ball and Brittany McLaren who had 5-points each.
In Senior ‘A’ basketball, the Chatham Christian Flames upset the Ridgetown Royals, taking home a 48-40 victory. Sandy Hakiza had 16-points for the Royals, while Laura Wiersma had 12-points in the win. Ridgetown entered as the regular season champions, and defending Kent Champions. Hope Long scored 17-points for Ridgetown in the loss.
Ridgetown did win one title on the day, as their Junior Girls basketball team defeated the Lambton-Kent Cardinals 30-22 in the Junior Girls ‘A’ final. McKenna Ladd scored 11-points for Ridgetown in the victory.
The Wallaceburg Tartans Senior Boys football team won their third straight Kent Championship, defeating the UCC Lancers 10-6. Brayden Fischer scored the game’s winning touchdown, while Wallaceburg kicker Keven Kellett hit a 20-yard field goal to score Wallaceburg’s points. Josh Avery Scott had UCC’s touchdown.
