Midget Fillies Off To Hot Start

Kent-Fillies-Girls-Hockey-2The Kent Fillies Midget C team continued their hot start to the 2013-2014 season over the weekend winning both games they played, and improving their record to 6-1-1.

Saturday, the Fillies edged out St. Thomas 3-2 to pick up their first win of the season. Opening the scoring was Ryanne Logan, who took a feed from Danica Drewery and put Kent County ahead 1-0 with seven minutes remaining in the opening frame.

After St. Thomas tied the game in the second period, Drewery scored a goal of her own, with assists going to Miah St. Pierre and Haley Smith to regain the Kent Fillies’ lead. Adrianna Long would put the Fillies ahead 3-1 heading to the third after she potted a goal before the end of the period.

St. Thomas would score once in the third to close the gap, but goalies Kaysey Dorssers and Tori Winters were solid in net, each allowing one goal in the game.

Sunday, the Fillies fended off the South Huron Sabres, taking a shutout 2-0 victory.

In the opening period, Miah St. Pierre fired a pass to Rachel Cameron, who scored a breakaway goal to put Kent ahead 1-0.

Fillies defenders Alex Vanek, Val Gotelaer, and Karleigh Murphy stepped up their games in the second period to keep South Huron off the scoresheet and help protect the shared shutout by Winters and Dorssers.

In the third period, Brooke Sullivan rounded out the scoring with the assist coming from Shelby Heyink.
Games. Sullivan roofed the puck past the Sabres netminder to round out the scoring and insure the Fillies’ victory.

The Kent Fillies are back in action this coming weekend.
