Maroons, Blades Win
The Chatham Maroons and Blenheim Blades both picked up wins Sunday night in local Junior hockey action.
Chatham, facing the St. Thomas Stars, squeaked out a 6-4 win after falling behind 3-1 early in the game. Connor Doran opened the scoring for the Maroons, while Adam Arseneault also scored a late first period goal to pull the Maroons within one heading into the intermission. Former Chatham star Alex Morgan, who now captains St. Thomas also had a first period goal.
In the second period, Chatham fired back with goals from Trevor Richardson and Mark Fratarcangelli. Richardson and Arseneault would each score their second goals of the game in the third period to lift Chatham to the win.
In Blenheim, Dylan Bonner opened the scoring for the hometown Blades in a 6-5 win over the Mooretown Flags. Former Maroons defenseman Ben Pataki opened the flood gates for Blenheim in the second period, which saw five Blenheim goals. Jarrod Oliphant had two goals in the frame, while Drew Marlatt and Kirk McKillop also scored.
McKillop finished the game with four points after adding three assists in the win.
Blenheim is back in action next Sunday against Belle River, and the following day against Wheatley.
Chatham travels to Sarnia Thursday, and hosts St. Thomas against next Thursday.
