Maroons Continue Roster Shakeup
The Chatham Maroons parted ways with veteran netminder Darien Ekblad, after his starting job had been snatched away by 16-year-old rookie Brendan Johnston. In his place, the Maroons have acquired goaltender Jacob Keogh from the Cambridge Winterhawks.
Keogh, a Barrie, Ontario native, had a 16-4-0-1 record with the Winterhawks, along with a 2.81 GAA and .919 save percentage at the time of the move. In the last two seasons, Keogh has also spent time with the GOJHL’s Owen Sound Greys and Waterloo Siskens, and the North York Rangers of the OJHL.
Keogh won his first start with the Maroons Sunday night, backstopping a 5-1 victory over the St. Marys Lincolns. Keogh had 31 saves in the victory.
In addition to Keogh, the Maroons also picked up forward Kyle Rowe, who had his first point as a Maroon, an assist in Sunday night’s win over St. Marys.
Rowe, a former Ste. Sault Marie Greyhounds draft pick from Richmond Hill, Ontario, had been playing in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League for the Elliot Lake Bobcats. Rowe had 16 points in 22 games for the Junior A Bobcats before his transfer to the Maroons.
Chatham has also welcomed Adam Arseneault, Kyle Brothers, and Tanner Ferguson in trades from the Lambton Shores Predators this season, and have parted ways with Steven Beenackers, Matt Kenney, Jay Ritchie, Ekblad, and are still waiting on Eric Palazollo, who left the team earlier this season, but is still on Chatham’s active roster.
