Michael Verboom commits to Mercyhurst University

Chatham Maroons captain Michael Verboom will be playing Division I NCAA hockey in the near future after committing to the Meryhurst University Lakers.

Verboom has made a verbal committment to the school, which is located in Erie, Pennsylvania, and playing in the Atlantic Hockey Association, for the 2015-16 season.

Verboom, last year’s GOJHL Western Conference Best Defensive Forward, was among the provinces top five scorers for much of this season until missing five games with a shoulder injury. Through 20 games, Verboom has 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points.

He was also the September GOJHL Western Conference Offensive Player of the Month, and played in the league’s Top Prospects and All-Star games last season.

Verboom is also a product of the Chatham-Kent Cyclones ‘AAA’ organization.

Another former Chatham-Kent Cyclones, and Chatham Outlaws star Meghan Agosta, who now plays for Canada’s womens team, was the captain of the Mercyhurst Lakers until 2011, where she set an NCAA scoring record.
