Smart Leads CKSS To Thrasher Title
Ian Smart scored 17 points and was named the tournament MVP, while grade 10 starter Marley Blommers added 11 and was recognized as a tournament all-star. Dan Allman scored 13 and Jake Lindley 5 in the championship game as well.
To get to the championship the Hawks defeated Burlington Notre Dame 34-32 to start the tournament. Smart again topped CKSS scorers with 17, while Blommers had 7, Lindley 4-points, and Nick Ladd 4. The Hawks had a hard time getting their offense started only scoring 2 points in the first quarter, but played excellent defense to keep them in the game holding Burlington to 10 in the first eight minutes.
In the semi final game, CKSS easily handled Windsor Kennedy 64-38. Dan Allman poured in 18 as did Blommers, while Smart again scored 17, and Lindley had 8. Joe Turner and Lee Kucera came off the bench to add 2 and 1 respectively.
Also, Coach Tom Hardie was recognized for his 35 years of coaching high school basketball by the tournament organizers as he has announced this will be his last year coaching at this level.
John McGregor also participated in the Thrasher tournament and will join CKSS and UCC in London at the Fanshawe tournament next weekend.
