Wallaceburg Hall Names 2013 Selections

The Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame will honour their annual and permanent inductees January 25 at the UAW Hall in Wallaceburg. The Wallaceburg Hall of Fame kicked off their celebrations by announcing their annual inductees for the upcoming event.

Madison Broad, Joe Perry, Lillian Craig, Todd Knight, Tim Santsche, and Alicia Baertsoen will be recognized in this years class.

Broad, a swimmer with the Chatham Y Pool Sharks, is the number one ranked swimmer in multiple categories for her age group, and won five gold medals at the Canadian Age Group Swimming Championships in Montreal, Quebec this summer. Broad will be recognized as the Athlete of the Year.

Joe Perry, who will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award, finished 36th at the World’s Toughest Mudder Competition in 2013 overall, and was the top finished in his age division from North America.

Wallaceburg high school teacher Lillian Craig will be recognized as the Builder of the Year. Craig has taught and coached at Wallaceburg District Secondary School for more than two decades.

Coach of the Year will be shared by two Wallaceburg Lacrosse coaches, Todd Knight and Tim Santsche. Knight coached the Peewee Wallaceburg Griffins to an Ontario ‘B’ gold medal, while Santsche took the Bantam Griffins to an Ontario ‘D’ gold.

Finally, Alicia Baertsoen will be the recipient of the Ray Aarssen/Sports Hall of Fame scholarship. Currently studying at Western University in London, Ontario, Baertsoen was the 2013 winner of the prestigious Dr. Jack Parry Award as the top high school student-athlete in Chatham-Kent.
