Wildcats Hosting Winter Kickoff Classic
Many of the top Ontario Bantam (Grade 7) Girls Basketball teams will be travelling to Chatham January 10th – 12th, 2014 for the Chatham Wildcats Winter Kick-off Classic. Games will begin Friday evening January 10th with the championship game to be played Sunday afternoon.
“If you have not seen Division One basketball at this age level, you will be unbelievably impressed with the level and intensity of play,” says Stephen Denys, Head Coach of the Bantam Girls Wildcats.
“In addition to our Wildcats, teams from Toronto, Scarborough, Hamilton, London, Sarnia and Kitchener will be among the teams vying for the tournament title. These teams bring with them some of the best female athletes in the province, players wanting to win here to improve their provincial team ranking.”
Denys says the opportunity to host creates a unique opportunity for the Bantam Wildcats.
“We typically have very few home games during the season as our team travels to centres like Toronto and Hamilton to find competitive play. With this tournament we can showcase our talent at home for family, friends and basketball fans of all ages.”
Denys says round robin pool games will be held at John McGregor Secondary School and the Chatham Christian School Friday evening January 10, McGregor and the WISH Centre on January 11th. The championship and consolation rounds will be held at Chatham Kent Secondary School (CKSS) all day Sunday. The Chatham Bantam Wildcats Team will be playing their pool games starting Friday January 10th at 6:30PM at McGregor, Saturday morning January 11th at 11AM at McGregor and Saturday afternoon at
3PM at the WISH Centre. Admission is free.
In addition to tournament games, the Wildcats will be hosting a skills competition on Saturday evening January 11th at the WISH Centre, featuring players from the Wildcats and visiting tournament teams.
