Agosta-Marciano Will Be Key For Canada In Sochi
Agosta-Marciano is the reigning MVP for Canada at the Olympics, where her performance helped Canada capture Gold in 2010.
Now, on a younger, less experienced team, Agosta-Marciano will be counted on for both veteran leadership and scoring.
“So proud and honoured to be named to the 2014 Olympic team. Can’t wait to continue the journey to Sochi,” Agosta-Marciano Tweeted following the announcement of Canada’s roster in late December.
Agosta-Marciano, who also has gold with Canada from 2006 in Torino, will have a tough task ahead of her, as Canada will come up against rival USA at multiple points throughout the tournament, with the teams splitting several exhibitions in recent months, with multiple games ending in brawls.
For Canada and Agosta-Marciano, anything less than gold is unacceptable, as the Nation has won four consecutive Olympic gold medals.
“Our Canadian women have a tremendous record when it comes to achieving results at the Olympic Games and the players nominated to represent our nation in Sochi will certainly carry on that tradition of excellence,” said Canadian Olympic Committee president Marcel Aubut in Hockey Canada’s roster announcement.
Agosta-Marciano and Canada will kick off their 2014 Olympics in Sochi against Switzerland February 8, 2014, and will play Finland February 10, and the United States February 12.
