Blades, Sharks Win In Great Lakes Action

Blenheim-Blades-WhiteThe Blenheim Blades opened their Great Lakes Junior C playoff series with a convincing 5-1 win over the Mooretown Flags Friday.

Zack Horvath, Connor Annett, and Kirk McKillop put the Blades up 3-0 early. After allowing Mooretown to score one, Derek Muzzatti and Tyler Boughner put the game away for Blenheim. Boughner also added two assists in the game.

Prior to the action, Blenheim’s Cam Aitken, who topped the Blades in regular season scoring, and finished second overall in the Great Lakes Junior C scoring race, was named the Great Lakes player of the month for January.

In Alvinston, the Wheatley Sharks evened their best-of-seven series against the Alvinston Flyers with a 5-2 win. Cale Phibbs and Brendon Anger each had a pair of goals, while Brett Babkirk rounded out the scoring for the Sharks. Jon Woelk played set up man in the game, assisting on three.

In Dresden, Macks Holmes had three assists in a losing effort for the Kings, who fell 7-3 to the Essex 73s. Dresden’s goals came from Jim McKinlay, Derek Daly, and Mike Myers. Rookie Dede Cato also had a strong game collecting two assists.

Great Lakes Junior C playoff action continues tonight.
