Blades Slice Canadiens For Two Game Lead
The Blenheim Blades kept rolling in their second round series against the Belle River Canadiens, taking a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven Great Lakes Junior C semi-final.
Derek Muzzatti opened the scoring, with helpers going to Tyler Boughner and Zach Horvath, at the midway point of the first period. Only minutes later, Great Lakes Junior C rookie of the year, and Windsor Spitfires draft pick, Drew Marlatt scored to make it 2-0 for the Blades.
After Dylan Muzzatti scored only 27 seconds into the second period, Blenheim let up slightly, allowing the Belle River Canadiens to pull the game within one, making the score 3-2 heading into the third period.
Midway through the third period however, Horvath and Derek Muzzatti would set up Tyler Boughner for an insurance marker, which the Blades would need as Belle River scored only a minute later.
In the final minutes of the game however, Blenheim’s defence, and the strong goaltending of Adam Leboeuf, who made 35 saves in the win, would help the Blades hold off Belle River’s attack for the 4-3 win.
Game three is Friday in Belle River with puck drop at 7:30pm.
