The Lambton-Kent Cardinals rose to the challenge Wednesday, defeating the favourited Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks to win the Kent Boys hockey championship.

Chris Dewulf posted a shutout in net for the Lambton-Kent Cardinals who were playing on the road at Erickson Arena in Chatham, as LKCS (Dresden) came away with the 3-0 victory. CKSS, who entered the playoffs as the top ranked team, couldn’t get their offense going.

Jake VanErd scored twice for the Cardinals in the win, while Garrison Rend had Dresden’s other goal.

The Cardinals, who defeated Ridgetown in the Kent semi-final, will advance as Kent’s ‘A-AA’ representative to the SWOSSAA playoffs, while CKSS will play a SWOSSAA semi-final in the ‘AAA-AAAA- division.
