Meghan White (far right) wins the OCAA Curling title with Fanshawe College

Meghan White is an 18-year-old curler from Chatham, Ontario who competed with the Fanshawe College Falcons this season.

In her first season of OCAA curling, White threw lead for the Fanshawe Falcons curling team, helping her team, skipped by Orillia’s Shannon Kee, to an OCAA Women’s Championship.

White, who is a Chatham-Kent Secondary School graduate, will now compete at the CCAA National Championships from March 19-22 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

As a member of the Chatham-Kent Secondary School curling team, White skipped her school to back to back Kent Championships in 2012 and 2013, and an OFSAA berth in 2013.

Below are Meghan White’s answers to CKSN’s Five Questions:

1. What is your career sports highlight/top memory?

So far my highlight has to be going to OFSAA in my grade twelve year at CKSS with my younger sister. It was an amazing experiance for the both of us as curlers and family.

2. Who is your favourite professional sports team and athlete?

To be 100% honest I don’t really follow any professional sports teams or athletes. I obviously watch curling when I get the chance or whenever I see that it is on, but I don’t follow things as closely as I could.

3. If you could achieve one thing/goal in sports, what would it be?

If I could achieve one thing in curling it would have to be win Nationals this coming March. In the long run I would like to maintain our reputation as a Fanshawe team and win Provincials and Nationals for the years to come.

4. Who has been your biggest sports influence and why?

My Nana has 100% been my biggest influence when it comes to curling. She was the reason I was encouraged to start in grade 7 and has been behind the glass for as many games as she could attend always giving me the same speech before I go on the ice, “Don’t forget to clean your rock.” I feel that without her small push at the beginning of all of this I wouldn’t still be curling.

5. What do you love most about playing sports?

Curling has a great social aspect to the game. No matter the turn out of the game the winners will buy the losers a drink and sit and socialize for what can turn into hours after the game. That would have to be my favourite part of curling. Looking back on any event I have been a part of and remembering all the new people I met.

Five Questions is a weekly feature on the Chatham-Kent Sports Network. We’ll ask athletes from across Chatham-Kent Five Questions, and post their answers every week.
