The Chatham-Kent Secondary School Senior Boys basketball team lost in the Roach-Towler final at the Silver Fox Invitational in Hamilton this past weekend. They were defeated by St. Thomas More 62-55 in a back and forth game. Ian Smart lead the Hawks with 20-points and Marley Blommers had 10.
CKSS made the final by beating Westmount from Hamilton 57-56. Ian Smart made a basket with 2.1 seconds left to win the game. Smart finished with 14-points, while Nick Ladd and Joel Barwick finished with 11 each.
In the quarter-finals of their flight, CKSS beat St. Ignatius of Loyola out of Oakville 68-61. Ladd paced the Hawks with 22-points while Marley Blommers chipped in 17.
CKSS lost both of their pool games in this 24 team tournament, the first 60-31 to defending champion Holy Trinity of Oakville 64-31. Ladd and Smart both had 6 points and Blommers had 5. The Golden Hawks also lost to J Clarke Richardson of Ajax 75-50. Smart had 15 points, Blommers 12 and Ladd 11.
It was an honor for the boys to play in the prestigious tournament, and even more of an honor to play some of their games in Coach Tom Hardie’s high school gym.
CKSS is back in action this week hosting UCC and visiting WDSS to complete their Kent regular season.
