Horvath Lifts Blades In OT

Blenheim-Blades-Alternative-LogoThe Blenheim Blades needed overtime, but they opened their second round Great Lakes Junior C playoff series with a win over the Belle River Canadiens Tuesday.

Only 52 seconds into overtime, Zack Horvath scored his second goal of the game, assisted by veteran Justin Rossignol, to lift the Blades to the 3-2 win.

Horvath opened the scoring in the game midway through the second period. Belle River then took the first frame over scoring twice, with goals coming from Sebastian Kanally and Brad Carroll to take a 2-1 lead.

In the third, Dylan Muzzatti tied the game with only four minutes remaining to send the game to overtime where Horvath would play the winner.

Blenheim chose to start veteran Adam Leboeuf, who was a cast off from Belle River earlier this season after playing 14 games with the team. Leboeuf shut down his former team, stopping 49 shots for the victory.

In other Junior C news, the Essex 73s took game one of their best of seven series, defeating the Wheatley Sharks 5-1.

Game two of each series takes place Wednesday evening.
