Two local high school girls hockey programs were making their bids for an appearance in the SWOSSAA finals, as the UCC Lancers and Lambton-Kent Cardinals took on opponents from Lambton County Monday.

In Chatham, the UCC Lancers hosted Sarnia St. Patricks, and walked away with a 4-1 victory, setting up a SWOSSAA final appearance against the Windsor-Essex champion.

Maddy Lalonde had a huge game for the Lancers scoring a pair of second period goals, and capping off her hat trick in the third. Lauren Nicholson also was a force offensively scoring once and assisting on two of Lalonde’s goals.

Sydnee Baker had a pair of assists in the game, while Keely Baggio also picked up an assist. Wallaceburg’s Sydney Authier was strong between the pipes for the UCC Lancers as she has been all season.

In Dresden, the LKCS Cardinals lost a hard fought game 4-2 to Forest, ending the Cardinals’ season.

The Cardinals top players were again at the forefront of their scoring efforts Monday, as Rachael Tricker, who plays club hockey for the Midget AA Bluewater Hawks, and Megan Morehouse, who plays club hockey for the Chatham Outlaws Bantam A team, scored for the Cardinals.
